Do you know what I love about working in this industry? It’s the freedom to be able to create beautiful things, it’s the joy I get from meeting new families and their precious children and taking hand and feet impressions...which are all truly unique and turning them into a piece of art...
..
I thought I would start the first blog off by letting you know how Cast a memory came about, the most common question I get asked is how I got started in this industry. This is how Cast a memory happened:
.
I was heavily pregnant with my third child in 2011, working for a fabulous non-profit organisation called Break Thru People Solutions. My role was to support people with barriers obtain and maintain employment. While I found this role fulfilling and challenging I had a constant need to create, I would find myself consistently day dreaming about all the things I could make, paint, decoupage, design and decorate.
.
The need to be creative would over take everything I did….I even used to get excited about my son’s school projects as it meant I could assist him in making some over the top assignment, obviously my son was more than happy for me to do this for him, but this is as far as my obsession would go.
.
When my daughter arrived last year I knew that I would not be able to return to work. Having a son with Aspergers and another daughter about to start big school I wondered how I would be able to successfully return to the workplace.
.
I feel incredibly lucky, blessed and appreciative that my partner pushed me to create Cast a Memory. He saw the creative me trying to escape and filled me with confidence. I had been doing pregnancy belly casting for some years and was urged to provide a service specialising in family keepsakes like baby and child hand and feet sculptures so I took the plunge.
.
Today, Cast a Memory has had handfuls of happy customers, we have had the opportunity to create beautiful framed hand and feet impressions, freestanding sculptures, pen holders for dad’s and grandfathers and amongst all, met fantastic people who have just been a joy to work with.
.
Although it has been a tough year for many reasons, Cast a Memory has now allowed me to stay at home with my children, it has let me do what I have always dreamt of doing and best of all, I can say that I am so proud of where Cast a Memory is at after such a short amount of time.
.
I am really excited to see what the coming year brings for Cast a Memory. We have many ideas in the pipeline and we look forward to sharing them with you.
